Nena Biography

Nena was born as Gabriele Susanne Kerner on March 24th 1960 in Breckerfield, North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany but was brought up in Hagen city. She is a new wave/pop singer-songwriter, an actress and the founder of the Neue Schule Hamburg following the Sudbury type of democratic school. She rose to international fame as the lead singer of the new wave band Nena (1981 – 1987) especially with their international hit song “99 Luftballons” (1983). After the group disbanded, she was given a second crack at her mainstream music career with the re-recording and release of some of her old tracks in 2024. She has been actively releasing albums and pursuing the ultimate Nena tour since. The year 2024’s Nena tour exposed her to audiences old and new in Germany, Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, Canada, South America, and Israel.
