Kraftwerk History

Kraftwerk (formed 1970, Dusseldorf, Germany) is an electronic music, sythnpop, techno, experimental rock band. Its founders, Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider had wanted to create a new and positive German cultural identity, unlike other modern German musicians of the time who copied mostly famous British artists. The group’s sound that emanated in the 1970s and 1980s was revolutionary for its time and influenced diverse genres of popular music. Among famous artists, David Bowie was the first to admit to the influence of Kraftwerk. The band released the albums “Kraftwerk” in 1970, “Kraftwerk 2” in 1972 and “Ralf und Florian” in 1973, but their critical and commercial success did not come until the release of “Autobahn” in 1974. The four succeeding albums “Radio Activity” (1975), “Trans-Europe Express” (1977), “The Man-Machine” (1978) and “Computer World” (1981) were the most influential.
